Welcome to Saving Money Journal! I'm Lisa.

You have found the spot on the world wide web where I record the savings our family receives on grocery and household items by combing store sales, coupons and rebates.

Each week I spend a significant amount of time researching so that I can find “the best deals in town.” After I shop, I post my transactions here, hoping that other people may perhaps obtain similar results in saving money. A friend used the skills she learned here to save enough money in a few months to pay for an additional family vehicle – a jeep.

I began my “serious strategic shopping” adventure in 2008 when I observed a sharp decline in our local economy. Gasoline prices soared – at that time to just over $2 per gallon – and women began pawning their wedding rings just to keep up with their regular expenses. I grabbed the coupon section from our local paper and began to research online in to see what I could gather about coupon shopping.

My college education has helped me to understand why getting items for free or nearly free on a regular basis is not a fluke. I am an AD/PR grad. Suppose the widget sells for $3, but it is on sale for half price. The manufacturer places advertisement in the form of a $0.75 off coupon in the newspaper coupon section. The grocery store doubles the coupon savings. The consumer pays only sales tax.

We figure our annual savings to be seven or eight thousand dollars.

Please do not pay full retail price for anything. If you spend a little time here on my blog, you will soon see that I get many items drastically reduced, and some free.

The most important free gift I have ever received is the free gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. And it is my earnest desire that you receive this gift, too.

The Bible says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
