Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. John 5:24

The best of well laid plans . . .

Today I learned that if I thaw out meat for dinner early in the day I can save money by avoiding paying full retail price for bratwurst.

I planned our evening meal at about 4:15 this afternoon.  The menu included hamburgers and veggie burgers with pepper jack cheese and homemade hamburger rolls, corn on the cob, grilled yellow and zucchini squash, fresh sliced tomatoes and fresh cantaloupe.  I put the ingredients in the bread machine for the hamburger rolls, and made a quick trip to our local farm stand to splurge on local produce.  That's when this storm hit Fredericksburg.  Click here to see a picture of lightening during the storm.  We had winds 57 miles per hour in our area, and almost 2 inches of rain in about 30 minutes.

When I got back home from the produce stand our power was out.  And it stayed out while we drove across town to purchase a plastic container to hold diesel fuel for our generator and  a new chain saw blade -- because Hurricane Irene is headed our way.

We have food on hand purchased at reasonable prices.  But without the luxury of our microwave to thaw hamburger, and without the wisdom of planning to be ready to prepare a meal when the power is out, we ended up paying full price for bratwurst and potatoe rolls for this meal.  A simple list of meals we can prepare when the power is out will serve us well.

Kuddos to Dominion Power Company for gettin our power back on this evening!
